About Us
Roxanna Whitney Wolfe, PsyD Roxanna Wolfe's first career was in nursing. She graduated from the School of Nursing at Jefferson Medical College, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She worked as a nurse with various populations in hospitals, residential and community health. Roxanna Wolfe received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in 1989. She completed her pre-doctoral Internship in Child & Adolescent Psychology and Neuropsychology at Sweetser Children's in Saco, Maine. Dr. Wolfe completed her Psychology Residency at Benton County Mental Health in Corvallis, Oregon, where she remained as staff Psychologist for 8 years. Dr. Wolfe provides psychotherapy and psychological & neuropsychological evaluation. She has focused on the psychology and treatment of trauma for more than 20 years. That specialty is the core of her clinical practice and volunteer service. She is a member of Physician's for Human Rights, an organization aiding refugees from around the world. As a trauma and dissociative disorders specialist, she helps traumatized persons deal with the past and move into the future. She may employ EMDR as a therapeutic instrument in treatment. Her evaluations often focus on the assessment of learning disabilities and neuropsychological interference in order to inform thoughtful, individualized recommendations for students and adults. Dr. Wolfe is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Maryland Psychological Association, the Montgomery/PG County Practicing Psychologists association, EMDRIA, the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, and Division 56 of the APA: Trauma Psychology. Brian Corrado, PsyD Brian Corrado received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Washington, DC. Dr. Corrado completed his pre-doctoral Internship at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He has worked in a variety of treatment settings including the Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) and The Center for Mental Health in Washington, DC, Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville, MD, and Mountain Manor Substance Abuse Treatment Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Corrado approaches psychotherapy as a way of working collaboratively with each client to generate solutions and build upon strengths. He has a special interest in the use of mindfulness-informed and evidence-based therapies. His approach is active, and he employs cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients to make gains as quickly as possible. Dr. Corrado is a founding member of the Metropolitan Washington DC area DBT Consortium www.metrodbt.com Dr. Corrado has written an article on DBT and Mindfulness for The Maryland Psychologist that is available for viewing here. In addition to therapy, Dr. Corrado provides testing evaluations that can be used to inform treatment and educational planning. Dr. Corrado has been in practice, providing testing and therapy in Bethesda, MD for several years. Dr. Corrado is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Maryland Psychological Association, the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County, the Montgomery/PG County Practicing Psychologists association, the Pro Bono Counseling Project, and Division 42 of the APA: Psychologists in Independent Practice. Brooke Stipelman, PhD Brooke Stipelman received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Stipelman completed her pre-doctoral internship in behavioral medicine at the UMDNJ-University Behavioral Healthcare in Piscataway, New Jersey. She is currently a Scientific Program Manager at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Stipelman has worked with a variety of populations across a range of treatment settings including outpatient mental health, partial hospitalization, residential drug treatment, and specialty clinics for anxiety, smoking, and pain. In addition to providing general mental health services, Dr. Stipelman has particular expertise in behavioral medicine, with an emphasis on smoking cessation, sleep hygiene, and pain/stress management. She utilizes cognitive-behavioral principles to teach skills that help clients better understand and manage the behavioral and psychological factors that influence their health. Additionally, Dr. Stipelman provides psychological testing, including psycho-educational evaluations, assessment of ADHD and general cognitive functioning. Patrick Mitchell, PsyD Patrick Mitchell, PsyD received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Washington, DC. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA. Dr. Mitchell is currently on the staff at the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (RICA), a community-based, public residential, clinical, and educational facility serving children and adolescents with severe emotional disabilities in Rockville, MD. Dr. Mitchell specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families. His previous experience includes working with children and adolescents in school, inpatient, and outpatient settings. He has worked at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, the Treatment and Learning Centers/Catherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD, and the Suburban Hospital Adolescent Addiction Treatment Center in Rockville, MD. Additionally, prior to obtaining his doctorate in psychology, Dr. Mitchell taught elementary, middle, and high school for a decade. Dr. Mitchell's therapy interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy for child behavior management; parent training; school problems; Asperger's Disorder/High Functioning Autism; social skills training; ADHD; anxiety and mood disorders; adolescent substance abuse; young adult transitions; and trauma work with children and adolescents utilizing the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) model. Dr. Mitchell also has broad experience with psychological and psycho-educational assessments with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Mitchell is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Maryland Psychological Association. Ted C. Bonar, PsyD Ted C. Bonar, PsyD is a licensed psychologist who welcomes the opportunity to work with individuals across a diverse spectrum. Dr. Bonar’s approach to working with clients is an integrative blend of interpersonal, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral theory and technique that aims to find the proper approach for each person. With extensive training in psychodynamic and interpersonal settings, he values a depth- and insight-oriented approach to psychotherapy, while attending to cognitive and behavioral markers that can address immediate needs. Dr. Bonar believes that short-term relief, and tangible tools and skills, can be used to facilitate longer-term personal growth and insight. Dr. Bonar works with adolescents and adults of all ages and values his extensive training and work in multicultural settings. He appreciates diversity and areas of difference, and is skilled in matters related to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, mourning and loss, family and romantic relationship problems, sexual and gender orientation concerns, life-stage transition issues, and substance abuse. Dr. Bonar is trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), which is an evidence-based, short-term treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. This approach is well-established, safe, and effective for all types of trauma, including sexual assault, childhood abuse, and combat trauma. This course of treatment augments Dr. Bonar’s interpersonal approach, and is offered in a safe, secure environment that provides the patient with the opportunity thrive. Prior to joining The Bethesda Group Psychological Services LLC, Dr. Bonar worked at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, and was a staff psychologist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Counseling Center. He is currently a staff psychologist at the Center for Deployment Psychology in Bethesda, MD where he works to increase the quality of mental health care for military service members and veterans. He has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami, and an MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University/Chicago. Jean Lauderback, MSW, LCSW-C Jean Lauderback, LCSW-C is a licensed clinical social worker who has extensive experience treating children and adolescents, with an emphasis on trauma therapy. Her practice includes significant work with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with depression and anxiety. Among the treatment interventions Ms. Lauderback employs are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Jean Lauderback received her degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma. She comes to The Bethesda Group Psychological Services, LLC as an experienced clinician. Ms. Lauderback has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient treatment settings including: Children’s Medical Center, Tulsa, OK; Shadow Mountain Institute, Tulsa, OK; Harbel Outpatient Treatment Services, Baltimore, MD; and the Abused Persons Program, Rockville, MD. Ms. Lauderback is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Academy for Certified Social Workers, and National Association for the Education of Young Children. Wyneshia R. Hicks, LGSW Wyneshia R. Hicks, LGSW, is a licensed graduate social worker. She began her career in the mental health field as a Psychology and Dance major at the State University of New York - College at Brockport. Upon earning her Bachelors degree in Psychology and Dance, she pursued and earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Choreography and Performance. Always believing in the therapeutic benefit inherent in dance, Wyneshia remained dedicated to her pursuit of joining clinical services with artistic expression. With this goal in mind, she has worked in a variety of social service and mental health settings. She has worked in the Metro DC area for over 5 years and that work has always centered around youth and often with underserved and diverse populations. In an effort to reach underserved youth, Wyneshia co-founded a non-profit organization to serve DC youth in foster care in 2005. As the co-founder, Wyneshia provided support in the areas of program development, staff training and served on the Board of Directors for several years. Ms. Hicks received her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and has worked in a variety of settings in DC and Maryland, and in the Baltimore area since that time. Wyneshia’s treatment approach has focused on the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) interventions. Wyneshia is currently on the staff at Adventist Behavioral Health’s Ridge School of Montgomery County, serving children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties. Wyneshia, who specializes in working with adolescents with problems of emotional regulation and oppositional behaviors, co-leads our Adolescent DBT Skills Group. |
